Casa Tres Monos — Punta Uva, Costa Rica

The House and some of our Jungle Visitors

Our house is located in a beautiful tropical garden setting in the jungle at Punta Uva, a 5 minute walk to the best beaches of the Costa Rican Caribbean1

Punta Uva is located half way between the happening town of Puerto Viejo with it's many restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and activities and sleepy Manzanillo where there is more great eating, local Caribbean color, even more beautiful beaches and the entrance to the National Park.

There are also restaurants, groceries, and internet within nearby walking distance to Casa Tres Monos in the quiet neighborhoods of Punta Uva and Playa Chiquita.

See our location on the satellite map.

1 Outside Magazine included Punta Uva in their list of the world's 10 most beautiful beaches.

Our House and Garden

Casa Tres Monos (Three Monkeys) is a simple rustic 2 story home made of beautiful tropical hardwood set in a colorful tropical garden on the side of a small river within the borders of the Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge teeming with rain forest life.

The house and the setting are very private and peaceful.  We are set back 200 meters down a jungle lane. Secluded from the noise of the road and crowds.

Of the many rain forest animals seen from the deck/hammock you may see include 3 species of monkey, 3 species of toucan and many parrots.

There is a river view from the deck where we commonly see river otters and turtles. Also there is a frog pond below the deck with water lilies, and lotus, and the possibility to observe many species of rain forest frogs.

In fact, we've counted 120 species of birds on the property!

The Area and Getting Here

Nearby activities include snorkeling, diving, surfing, bicycling, fishing, kayaking, hiking in the reserve or national park.   Check out a full list or tours and activities for the area.

There are many restaurants nearby in the area and tons more choices in nearby Puerto Viejo. Browse the Puerto Viejo Satellite Map for more info on the area.

There are 4 public buses per day linking Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Limon, and San Jose, some which will stop right at our driveway.  Schedules for buses as well as driving instructions, private and shared tourist shuttle bookings and all sorts of detailed info on getting to the area can be found here.

One really memorable way to get here from San Jose or Arenal is to take a whitewater rafting trip. They'll pick you up at your hotel in the morning, bring you on a day of adventure and then drop you off at our driveway at the end of the day. And since the rafting location is halfway between San Jose and Puerto Viejo your day is spent in fun not in transit!

Click here for rafting details and booking information.

If you want to get here straight off your international flight, consider hiring a van and driver that will meet you at the airport and bring you right here.

We had a lovely week at Casa Tres Monos. The gardens are amazing! We saw monkeys almost every day and all sorts of wildlife wonders just by sitting on the back porch. It is a truly incredible spot, we really felt like we were in the jungle. In the evening we heard the most amazing chorus of sounds. It’s a spectacular place.

I stayed at casa tres monos in june of 2010. The garden is beautiful, the location is wonderful. You can rent bikes and ride to both Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo easily. Punta uva beach is one of the best beaches I've ever seen. Great for snorkeling, swimming or just hanging out. In walking distance to some really good restaurants (Selvyns is great!)Close to everything but secluded at the same time. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!!

We just returned from 18 days at Casa Tres Monos and it was great. You can just sit on the porch and watch the wildlife unfold in front of your eyes. Day or night -- it doesn't matter -- somethings always going on. The gardens were beautiful and we loved every minute of it.

I'm a photographer and if you would like to see some of my photos at CTM you can click HERE. If you want to experience the nature of Costa Rica, this is the place to do it!

We spent Feb 2010 at Casa Tres Monos & it was beyond anything we could have imagined a dream vacation could be. Accomodations were clean and very comfortable. The gardens were beautiful & attracted every animal/insect/reptile possible. We learned so much by being there. We had no car so rode the bus, bicycled & walked everywhere. The Pulperia on the main road is stocked with everything you need. Everyone we met was so friendly & willing to help if needed. Everything we read before we left led us to believe we were going to paradise, & we did! Coming back to the States after 5 weeks in Costa Rica was a real downer. We will return again. Thanks, Ray & Ron, for sharing your wonder paradise with us.

What an amazing place, we went to Costa rica for a month Dec - Jan 2010 and this was one of our highlights - Casa Tres Monos.
It is located in an amazing garden - Cute wee tree frogs come out at night and you can take a stroll with your flashlight to discover all kinds of bizarre spiders, bugs etc, under the plants. There was a 3-toed sloth right there on the tree in front of us while we ate or meals, and her babe. Wonderful space and peace and quiet. Would highly recommend it.Worth the long drive from the airport for sure.

The setting of this house is spectacular, amazing gardens, wildlife viewing right from your deck, a creek running by, sounds of frogs at night. This place will give you a full immersion in nature!
